    How is religion portrayed in the story "Book of the Generations"? Does religion help Granny, Lula, or Justine? Does it hinder them in any way?

    Students should be able to see both the positives and negatives of religion for the main characters. It provides a source of community and hope for the women, even when Justine becomes pregnant. However, the negatives are more clear in this story, as Justine in particular is made to feel guilty about her desires.
